Your protection

Privacy & security.

Unison is built so you can organize without fear. Your real identity stays hidden by default, your data is locked down, and you control what you share.

Anonymous by design

You sign up with an email, but the site never displays it. Every campaign, pledge, demand vote, discussion post, and private message shows an anonymous handle like SteelHawk-482. Your real name is never linked to your activity unless you choose to reveal it outside the platform.

What we show vs. hide

  • Public: anonymous handle, campaign goals, pledge counts, demands, and public discussion.
  • Private: your email, real name, verification documents, and exact employer details.
  • Shared only with coworkers: private one-to-one messages are visible only to you and the other worker.

Verification without exposure

To prevent fake pledges, we ask you to prove you work at the employer you are organizing around. You can verify with a private document upload reviewed by admins, or vouches from already-verified coworkers. We never send anything to a work email address and never contact your employer. Verification documents are stored securely and are not shown publicly.

Private messages

One-to-one messaging is only available between verified workers at the same employer. Handles are used instead of names, and conversations are not visible to other users or to campaign visitors.

Data we do not sell or share

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with employers, unions, advertisers, or third parties. Your email is used only for account access, password reset, and optional notifications you can turn off.

Row-level security

The database uses row-level security policies so each query only returns data the requesting user is allowed to see. Admins can access more for moderation, but ordinary users cannot browse other users’ emails, documents, or private conversations.

Reporting & moderation

If you see harassment, spam, false claims, or content that risks a worker’s safety, you can report campaigns, discussion posts, and Worker Stories. Admins review reports and can suspend accounts or revoke false verifications. Suspended users can still read public content but cannot organize, pledge, message, or post.

Cookies & sessions

We use a session cookie to keep you signed in. If you install Unison as an app, your browser may store a local icon and theme color. We do not use tracking cookies or analytics pixels that follow you across the web.

Account deletion

You can delete your own campaigns from your activity page, and you can delete your entire account yourself from the bottom of that page. Deleting your account permanently removes your handle, pledges, votes, discussion posts, private messages, verification records and uploaded documents, and any campaigns you started. Donation records are kept for accounting but are stripped of your identity. Some records may be retained longer where required by law.

Be careful what you post

Unison hides your identity from the public, but anything you write in a discussion or message could still identify you if it includes your real name, badge number, schedule details, or other unique facts. Keep posts general and avoid naming specific coworkers without their consent.
